EIEIO Grant Application

Economic Initiatives and Education Integrated Outreach (EIEIO) Grant Application

The SAVMA Governmental Affairs Committee and Education and Professional Development Committee are offering a grant to veterinary students and veterinary student organizations to provide funding for awareness of the current financial concerns for veterinary students.

· These events may include but is not limited to: letters to government officials, invitation of government officials and/or leaders to events involving student participation, travel of students to meetings concerning budgets, webinars, or other economic education events. Economic education events could be (but are not limited to) lectures or wet-labs that educate students on managing finances and understanding current loan repayment options.

These grants, up to $1000, will be awarded to the applications which best demonstrate innovation, the potential to impact a large number of students, and accurate presentation of a topic(s) related to economic issues for veterinary students. The GAC and EPDC hope that with this grant, veterinary students will have the opportunity for exposure to current and practical topics that may not otherwise be included in the typical veterinary curriculum.

Please return your completed grant application to SAVMA Governmental Affairs at gac.savma@gmail.com . Be sure to include “EIEIO Grant” in the subject line of your message.

All grant applications must be submitted a minimum of 30 days prior to or a maximum of 14 days following the event. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come first-serve basis during the SAVMA fiscal year, which begins on September 1st.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail us at gav.savma@gmail.com,

AWHAB Grant!

SCAVMA Members,

Is your school searching more knowledge pertaining to animal welfare? Or maybe your classmates are really curious about the bonds that animals and humans share with each other! Well the AWHAB Educational Lecture Grant has been established to help fund lectures on these topics, which may not be offered at your veterinary schools.
The DEADLINE for the AWHAB Educational Lecture Grant is December 15, 2012 and those awarded grants will be announced by January 31, 2013 if not sooner! There will be four $250 grants given to the schools with the best applications.
The AWHAB committee is also attaching the AWHAB Grant Application! Are there any organizations or programs around your school that you think encompass the values of good animal welfare and/or the human animal bond. Maybe there is a project that your students at your school are wanting to get started or complete that focuses on the value of animal welfare and/or the human animal bond. If so, the AWHAB Committee is offering this grant to help these programs and organizations financially in an effort to benefit animal welfare and the human animal bond. We had some excellent applications last year, and we are looking forward to this years applicants. Please remember to focus on the outline that is provided with application as we are looking for applications that really demonstrate a strong focus on animal welfare and/or the human animal bond.
The DEADLINE for the AWHAB Grant is March 15th, 2013 and those awarded grants will be select at the SAVMA Symposium at Louisiana State University in March 2013. Awards will be granted to those applications which best serve animal welfare and the human animal bond. The AWHAB committee will divide up $2500 budgeted for this grant to the schools with are chosen at the LSU symposium in March 2013.

These documents can also be found on the events and opportunities page on the SAVMA webpage.  The link is posted below.

If there are any questions, please free to contact the committee at savma.awhab@gmail.com

Thanksgiving Thank You!

Thank you everyone who came out tonight. Your side dishes were amazing as always. Also I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation as we lined up to serve everyone. You were all more than patient (which I know is hard when you are soooo hungry), but you all did wonderful! To those that came early and/or stayed late to help with setup and cleanup, Thank You, your dedication and assistance did not go unnoticed.

I especially want to take a moment to thank our sponsors this evening. With out the support of both Hills and Novartis none of this would have been possible. Year in and year out both corporations are willing to assist SCAVMA in putting on this feast. So please if you get a chance thank your corporate representatives either in person or by a simple post on their Facebook page.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
